Chief inspector of mines releases annual report

VICTORIA – The Ministry of Energy and Mines has released the Annual Report of the Chief Inspector of Mines for the 2015 calendar year.

This report underscores the progress made in health and safety and signals the work ahead to make mining in B.C. even safer and more sustainable for us all. Specific highlights of the 2015 report include:

  • Total value of reclamation security deposits held by the Province surpassed $1 billion.
  • Additional $846 million scheduled to be deposited within the next eight years.
  • Targets on mine inspections met – ministry inspectors conducted 1,203 inspections.
  • A decrease in the annual injury rate.
  • A decrease in the number of dangerous occurrences.
  • Reduction in the number of days of work lost to injury.

The Office of the Chief Inspector and ministry staff continue to work with industry, workers and communities to ensure that mineral exploration and mining activities are conducted safely and responsibly.
