Climate Leadership Indigenous Survey – Government of Alberta

Thank you for taking part in this 10-minute survey on Alberta’s Indigenous Climate Leadership Initiative.
This survey will help inform the government’s engagement with Indigenous communities on the initiative and help us understand what kind of programming and opportunities you would like to see available to your communities. This is intended to be one of many opportunities for you to provide input into the Indigenous Climate Leadership Initiative.
To participate in this survey, you must be:
- 18 years or older
- First Nations (status or non-status), Metis, or Inuit
Alberta’s Climate Leadership Plan
The Alberta Climate Leadership Plan is the Government of Alberta’s approach to addressing the impacts of climate change and making the transition to a low carbon economy. A carbon levy introduced in January 2017 will fund adjustment and investment initiatives. All initiatives are fully open to Indigenous participation.
A portion of this investment will be earmarked for Indigenous communities to support projects that
- reduce greenhouse gas emissions,
- stimulate green economic development,
- generate green jobs, and
- diversify Alberta’s economy.
In addition to marked farm fuel, some other fuels are exempt from the carbon levy. First Nations individuals and bands will be exempt from the levy when fuel is purchased on-reserve for personal or band use, consistent with exemptions for Alberta’s other commodity taxes.

How this survey information will be used
Information provided to Ministry of Indigenous Relations is collected under the authority of Section 33(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act and will be protected under provisions of the Act. Survey responses will be used by the Government of Alberta to inform options for initiatives related to the Indigenous Climate Leadership Initiative. Demographic information, and any comments provided in the survey will not be used or disclosed for any other purpose without consent or unless required to do so by law.
Deadline
The Survey will be open for online submissions until June 30th 2017.
