HRIC vows to hold elected officials accountable

As Ward 15 gears up to elect a new face to the Hamilton city council table, Indigenous leaders and allies are touting the importance of a strong relationship between a new representative and local Indigenous groups.

Waterdown author, historian and history teacher Nathan Tidridge, who has been involved in a number of Indigenous projects in the area — including the creation of the Souharissen Natural Area and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Treaty Forest — said councillor support has been critical to the projects.

He added outgoing Ward 15 Coun. Judi Partridge has been critical to the work done to rebuild relationships with Indigenous Peoples — particularly the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
