Contract Confirmed for Year-Round Marine Service on Labrador Straits

Labrador Marine Inc. has been awarded a contract to provide year-round marine ferry service for the Labrador Straits. The term of the contract will be in effect until 2016 at which time new consolidated ferry services for Labrador will be introduced.

Labrador Marine Inc.’s contract begins on April 15, 2014, and the MV Apollo will return to service. Labrador Marine Inc. will complement service by a contract vessel during the Apollo refit periods. The contract is for a two-year period ending September 14, 2016. The total value of the contract is $26.2 million.

The MV Apollo will provide service on the Strait of Belle Isle between St. Barbe and Blanc Sablon. During winter ice seasons, service will be rerouted to Corner Brook and scheduled trips will be weather and ice dependent.
