Council for the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation announced Tuesday that Chief Darlene Johnston has decided to resign.
In a released statement, Johnston said she needed to step down due to health concerns.
“I resigned from my position as your Chief, effective immediately, due to medical reasons,” wrote Johnston. “In my absence, several Councillors have taken turns serving as Acting Chief. I thank them for demonstrating their commitment to our community by doing so. It has been my honour to have served you, even for such a short period of time.”
