First Nations leaders have accused Manitoba Hydro of misleading the public and trying to “distract from its own failures” during the investigation into the cause of a power outage in Pimicikamak Cree Nation.
The Crown corporation said Monday the definitive cause isn’t known, but shotgun pellets were found in the transmission line that broke and aerial marker balls attached to it.
In a news release, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc., which represents Pimicikamak and other northern First Nations, said Hydro is deflecting responsibility for the outage, and appears to be protecting its image rather than protecting the people it serves.
