ESKASONI FIRST NATION — Charlotte Jesty knows what she wants and is determined to get it. She is one of 10 aboriginal women taking a course in entrepreneurship from Monica Diochon, a business professor at St. Francois Xavier University.
Jesty, a registered nurse from North Sydney whose mother is from Eskasoni, said her health recently forced her out of nursing. Her son was also looking for work, so the time just seemed right to start looking into a new business venture.
“Karma kind of pushed me into it,” she said. “I’m on a different path, a different journey. I’ve taken a fork in the road.”
Jesty’s son is a graphic designer, her daughter-in-law is a photographer and Jesty described herself as “a hobbyist photographer. And the boss. We’re pooling all of our talents and hopefully we’ll make a go of it.”
She has started on a business plan and needs to line up capital for equipment and a business location.
