Press Release
Minister Rajan Sawhney and Parliamentary Secretary Shane Getson will travel to India to explore emerging opportunities in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
Minister of Indigenous Relations Rajan Sawhney and Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Corridor Development and Chair of the Alberta India Advisory Committee (AIAC) Shane Getson will meet with government officials, private sector leaders and potential investors in Mumbai, Surat, Goa, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bhubaneswar and Chandigarh from Jan. 19 to Feb. 5.
While holding meetings across India with stakeholders, Minister Sawhney and Parliamentary Secretary Getson will work to identify new markets and highlight Alberta as India’s partner of choice across key sectors. Alberta’s energy solutions will take centre stage with Minister Sawhney’s participation in the 2026 India Energy Week, a leading international forum that brings together energy leaders from across the globe from Jan. 27 to Jan. 30 in Goa, India.
In her role as a member of the Alberta government’s Northwest Coast Oil Pipeline advisory team, Minister Sawhney will highlight how our province can meet India’s growing need for secure oil and gas, petrochemicals and more.
“Securing long-term opportunities for Alberta to export its energy to this key region will create jobs, drive economic growth and deliver lasting prosperity for Indigenous partners and all people living in Alberta and in Canada. With its vast resources, environmental stewardship and innovative energy solutions, Alberta is a leader in responsible resource development and a trusted global partner.”

Parliamentary Secretary and AIAC Chair Getson will further bolster the Alberta government’s efforts in the region as he attends India Energy Week and participates in meetings and roundtables with regional investors and business leaders in energy, technology, agriculture and agri-food, manufacturing, tourism and more.
“In the face of ongoing global trade uncertainty, Alberta’s government has made a commitment to turn our sights to opportunities beyond our continent, and when we look at priority markets in the Indo-Pacific, India truly has it all. This mission will provide an opportunity to build strong, long-lasting economic corridors between Alberta and India. I look forward to unearthing new ways Alberta and India can deepen our mutually beneficial trade and investment ties, while promoting everything that makes Alberta a natural partner of choice across sectors.”
