First Nations women’s council member focused on building stronger relationships

June’s Leading the Way: Aboriginal People Today installment is about Kim Shade, Aboriginal Engagement and Relationships Manager at Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, and member of the province’s First Nations Women’s Economic Security Council.

The story draws on Shade’s reflections on her early life as a member of the Blood Tribe, part of the Blackfoot Confederacy, as well as her family, career, and current role of engaging and consulting with First Nations people about natural resource management decisions in the province.

As part of the First Nations Women’s Economic Security Council, she helps improve opportunities for, and the well-being of, First Nations women.

Leading the Way: Aboriginal People Today tells the story of individuals from across the province who are successful in their respective fields and are empowered by their cultural values.

A new story is available each month on the Aboriginal Relations website
