Press Release
The National Aboriginal Forestry Association (NAFA) is hosting a national forum on “Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) and Indigenous Forests:
Landscapes, Certification and Nationhood” in Ottawa, Ontario from April 12-14, 2016.
As the Federal government sets a path forward to implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), including the right to FPIC, the First Nations of Canada that
have been long-standing participants in the forest sector are positioning themselves as leaders in FPIC implementation. NAFA invites you to be a part of this national strategy building process.
This 3-day event will showcase Indigenous forests and engagement mechanisms at international, national, regional and local levels; explore Indigenous forest sector needs; facilitate discussions about the application of FPIC both within certification systems and by provincial and federal governments; and focus on the development of a national Indigenous Forest Framework that includes FPIC.
If you would like to join us and share your experience in an open, collaborative and interactive environment, please see our website for more information at www.nafaforestry.org or contact Janet at 613-233-5563, janet@nafaforestry.org
