Funding addresses key challenges and advances equity for 2SLGBTQI+ communities in PEI

Every Canadian deserves to fully participate in all spheres of society, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. Through project funding, the Government of Canada is protecting 2SLGBTQI+ equality and continuing to address systemic discrimination.
Today, Parliamentary Secretary, Jenna Sudds, on behalf of the Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth announced up to $164,571 in funding to PEERS Alliance, an organization that supports those living with and at risk for HIV, Hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted infections in PEI. The PEERS Alliance project funding will help 2SLGBTQI+ communities in PEI overcome barriers and achieve better treatment when accessing services.
Projects such as this one will further support federal efforts to advance equality for 2SLGBTQI+ communities facing barriers due to intersecting identity factors. This includes people identifying as Indigenous, Black, or racialized; seniors; youth; those living with a disability; Canadians from rural and remote communities; and official language minority 2LGBTQI+ communities.
The Government of Canada will continue to work closely with 2SLGBTQI+ communities and partners to protect 2SLGBTQI+ rights and build a safer, more equitable and inclusive Canada.

- Budget 2022 committed $100 million to the 2SLGBTQI+ Federal Action Plan providing:
- up to $40 million in new capacity-building grants and contributions for 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations;
- up to $35 million in new project grants and contributions for 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations;
- up to $5.6 million to enhance inclusion and address stigma and discrimination against 2SLGBTQI+ communities through an awareness campaign;
- up to $7.7 million to conduct new data collection and research activities that will inform future 2SLGBTQI+ initiatives;
- up to $11.7 million to stabilize and expand funding for the 2SLGBTQI+ Secretariat.
