The Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), announced today an investment to complete network upgrades to deliver enhanced mobile wireless service to 23 First Nations across Northern Ontario.
A repayable FedNor contribution of $825,000 will enable K-Net Services, a division of Keewaytinook Okimakanak (Northern Chiefs Council), to enhance its network, allowing the organization to meet the immediate cellular and data transfer needs of its business and residential clients. Specifically, the funding will be used to purchase and install a core switch, radio network controller and short message service system at K-Net’s operating centre in Sioux Lookout.
