Hundreds stand ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ at Halifax rally for Indigenous rights, environment, democracy – Halifax Examiner

Hundreds of Nova Scotians joined their Mi’kmaq allies to protest Premier Tim Houston’s austerity budget, which has slashed millions in grants to vulnerable groups.

The Shoulder to Shoulder, We Are Treaty People rally took place on Granville Street in Halifax in front of Province House. It was attended by a coalition of more than 60 Mi’kmaw and settler groups from communities throughout Nova Scotia.

In a media release, the Ecology Action Centre said the coalition was calling on the Houston government “to respect Mi’kmaw Rights, follow democratic processes and stop selling off Nova Scotia to corporate interests.”
