TORONTO, June 16, 2014 – In celebration of National Aboriginal Day, today Hydro One recognized eight students selected for the Leonard S. (Tony) Mandamin Scholarship. Scholarship recipients receive a $5,000 award and are offered a work term with Hydro One.
“The Leonard S. (Tony) Mandamin Scholarship helps to encourage First Nations, Métis and Inuit students to consider a career within the electricity sector,” said Judy McKellar, Vice-President, People and Culture.

The award is named after the Honourable Justice Leonard S. Tony Mandamin, one of the first Electrical Engineering graduates in Ontario of First Nations ancestry. The Honourable Justice Leonard S. Tony Mandamin, an Anishnawbe, is a member of the Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve on Manitoulin Island. The annual scholarship, established in 2011, is awarded to First Nations, Métis and Inuit post-secondary students enrolled in electricity-related programs.
