Industry Training Authority Announces More Support For BC Apprentices

Vancouver, BC– The Industry Training Authority (ITA) has announced it is adding eleven more Apprenticeship Advisorsto better support employers and apprentices, and improve apprenticeship continuation and completion rates in BC.

The recruitment process begins immediately for the Lower Mainland, Kamloops, Victoria, and Northeastern BC. View job postings at www.itabc.ca/about-ita/careers-ita. A total of 15 Apprenticeship Advisors across the province will be in place by the end of December 2014.

The Aboriginal community will play a key role in filling important skilled jobs in the LNG sector and related industries. To fulfil this need, five of the Apprenticeship Advisors will be focused specifically on the Aboriginal community to recruit and support Aboriginal apprentices.

“We look forward to building upon the successes of the first four Apprenticeship Advisors located in Kelowna, Nanaimo, Prince George and Terrace. These communities have quickly embraced the new regional support model and the Advisors are already seen as an important partner in assisting both apprentices and employer sponsors. The full rollout of the Apprenticeship Advisor program is an important step towards ensuring we can meet the labor and economic needs of our province, says Gary Herman, interim CEO, Industry Training Authority.

The Apprenticeship Advisors are an extension of ITA’s Customer Support team, and their primary role is to provide support and guidance to apprentices and employer sponsors and help build knowledge and awareness of the BC apprenticeship system.
