Organizations renew MOU focused on collaboration, relationship-building, and joint initiatives

Dakelh Territory (Quesnel, BC) – Growing Indigenous tourism across the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast is at the heart of the renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed Friday by the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) and Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism (CCCT).

“We’re pleased to continue our partnership with the CCCT and work together to enhance Indigenous tourism opportunities across the region,” said Keith Henry, President and CEO of ITAC. “Our organization works every day to support the growth of Indigenous tourism in Canada and our work with the CCCT is going to help build this critical sector in every part of the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast to the benefit of all communities in the area.”

The MOU was renewed at the Annual Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Summit, during the opening reception at the Lhtako Dene Nation longhouse in Quesnel, BC. Joint projects under the MOU will take place on multiple fronts, everything from marketing and promoting Indigenous tourism offerings, to co-hosting tourism media far and wide, to programs that help businesses recruit and retain employees.

Indigenous tourism is a key part of the tourism sector, and this MOU is going to help us connect more people to these opportunities,” said Amy Thacker, CEO of Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism. “A strong, sustainable visitor economy brings benefits to communities in every part of our region – and we’re going to keep building this as we move forward together with our friends at ITAC.”
