Jim Prentice’s return to politics may leave behind unfinished … – Financial Post

When shareholders of CP Rail meet in Calgary Thursday for the company’s annual meeting, they may be the first to know about Jim Prentice’s future.

As one of the 13 directors of the Calgary-based railway company standing for re-election, Mr. Prentice would have to step aside if he’s for running for the leadership of the Alberta Progressive Conservatives, one of many costly decisions he will have to make as he unwinds a rewarding private life.

The former senior minister in Stephen Harper’s government is putting together a team to make a bid for the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership, but has yet to formally announce that he is gunning to be Alberta’s next premier, a job that comes with a salary of about $211,000 a year.

Mr. Prentice joined the board of CP Rail last year and earned about the same amount in director’s fees.
