Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree’s latest stand-alone pitch to update the laws on lawful access to date will be back in the spotlight at PUBLIC SAFETY AND NATIONAL SECURITY as MPs take a closer look at the potential impact of the proposed new rules from representatives of the Canadian Bar Association, Canadian Constitutional Foundation and Signal, as well as the Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council, Centre for Free Expression and OpenMedia. Earlier in the day, PROCEDURE AND HOUSE AFFAIRS members will continue to parse the details of Government House Leader Steven MacKinnon’s proposal to update federal election laws to include more stringent protections against foreign interference, including in nomination races and leadership contests, as well as add new requirements for parties to protect personal information.
