What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
With just days to go before the Labour Day long weekend that traditionally marks the transition from summer to fall, Prime Minister Mark Carney — who, as Canadian Press notes, wrapped up his whirlwind European tour by visiting Canadian troops currently deployed on Canada’s newly extended mission in Latvia — will be staying off the radar today, according to his office.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll be off the clock, however, as he’ll likely want to check in with Canada – U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc to get a more comprehensive — and candid — account of his latest back-and-forth with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in Washington, D.C., which, as per CP, “left (him) with the sense that progress was made” during a “constructive” 90-minute session that focused on “specific proposals and items that have been put on the table.”
