Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia attending Malahat Nation’s 2nd Annual Gala

Mill Bay, B.C. – September 23, 2014 – Malahat Nation is pleased to announce the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, will be attending the 2nd annual fund raising Gala on November 1, 2014. The Gala is raising funds to support the delivery of cultural and educational programs at the new Kwunew Kwasun Resource Centre.

“We are very pleased to have the Honourable Judith Guichon attend our Gala. Her Honour’s support means so much to our community and our path forward to supporting our youth to continue their education and move on to post-secondary education and fulfilling careers. The Malahat Nation is forging relationships and partnerships that will further strengthen our community culturally and economically. We place a very high value on our relationship with the Honourable Judith Guichon, who also attended the grand opening of our Cultural Centre, and are deeply grateful to have her attend our fundraising Gala,” says Chief Michael Harry. The Centre was built as an initiative under the Lieutenant Governor’s literacy program: The Write to Read Project, a partnership between the Government House Foundation and the Rotary Clubs of District 5040

The theme for the Gala is “Shoot for the Moon; Catch a Star”. The keynote speaker is Canadian astronaut Dr. Robert Thirsk who will speak about his experiences in space and his passion for engaging and inspiring youth to pursue their dreams. Entertainment will be provided by Crystal Shawanda, who won the 2013 Juno award for Aboriginal Album of the Year; Ms. Shawanda will be performing songs from her latest album “The Whole World’s Got the Blues”. The Gala will be held at the beautiful Brentwood Bay College in Mill Bay.
