Creation of corporate entities will allow eight First Nations to hold equity in Hydro One’s North Shore Link and Northeast Powerline projects
Eight First Nations have advanced their involvement in Hydro One’s proposed North Shore Link and Northeast Powerline projects.
On Tuesday, the nations — Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, Batchewana First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Serpent River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Wahnapitae First Nation, and Whitefish River First Nation — announced the creation of corporate entities to negotiate a 50-50 equity partnership with Hydro One.
A new not-for-profit company, the Waasmoowin Opportunities and Consultation Council, will serve as the main point of engagement to ensure consideration for environmental issues, treaty rights, and project benefits such as employment and contracting opportunities.
