Manager, Climate Change

Under the direction of the Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, the Manager of Climate Change is responsible for leading NTI’s climate change file and is responsible for advocacy, representation, policy analysis and research in order to advance NTI’s priorities as they relate to climate change. As the successful candidate; you will play a key role in leading the development and implementation of the new territorial Inuit-specific Climate Change Strategy and all related programs for NTI. You will provide advice on NTI’s interests in territorial, national and international action on climate change mitigation and adaptation. As the incumbent you will work extensively with other divisions, departments, governments, organizations, communities, Federal departments and the public to ensure effective program and policy development and delivery. You will manage the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, strategies and programs related to climate change, including climate change impacts, adaptation and mitigation; provide overall direction for the development of NTI positions and strategies for addressing Climate Change priorities; you will lead and coordinator Climate Change communication, outreach and engagement internally and externally. Also lead Climate Change Financial and Human Resources Management and represent NTI and the Department on various local/regional/national committees, forums and working groups related to Climate Change. You will develop and maintain strong relationships with other departments, organizations and engage the public and maintain qualifications in professional, technical and administrative areas.

To be invited for an interview; obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field with 4 years of relevant experience; or a College Diploma in a related field with 7 years of relevant experience working in a progressively responsible management position. You must have superior knowledge of Climate Change and related issues including impacts, research, adaptation and mitigation in Nunavut. A solid understanding of federal, provincial and territorial regulations, agreements, programs and responsibilities in relation to Climate Change including strong understanding of UN and other international Climate Change frameworks and agreements and their implications for Canadian and Nunavut policies and economies. Strong management skills to develop and implement strategic plans and new processes within the department, and to supervise staff, excellent written and oral communications skills with an ability to communicate in a concise, clear and timely manner. You must have facilitation skills, including the ability to provide guidance to senior managers and mediate conflict constructively and proven organization and time management skills as well as the ability to meet tight deadlines, handle a high volume of complex information and manage a demanding workload.

Preference will be given to Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement.

Starting salary is $111,147.00 (commensurate with experience), and a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan, group insurance and vacation travel assistance.

Housing allowance of $27,600 per annum.
