The Manitoba government is investing up to $1.25 million annually over three years in a partnership with the Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre, a major step forward accelerating clean technology adoption and advancing Manitoba’s Path to Net Zero strategy, Innovation and New Technology Minister Mike Moroz and Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes announced today.
“Manitoba is already a leading innovation hub for cleantech in Canada, and this investment will give Manitoba companies the support to help tackle climate change, which is our greatest generational challenge,” said Moroz. “This funding, combined with a proven partner like Foresight will not only help the eco-tech companies reach their potential, but will also pull private capital off the sidelines and into the game.”
Manitoba’s Path to Net Zero strategy will strengthen Manitoba’s clean technology ecosystem by accelerating the deployment of innovative solutions, attracting private investment, and driving emissions reduction and economic growth. Through this agreement, Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre will lead a cluster-based approach focused on sectors with the biggest potential for climate impact and economic opportunity.
“Manitoba has an ambitious target to meet our net-zero strategy and this funding is an important step that aligns our economy with sustainable growth,” said Moyes. “We look forward to working with Foresight to help Manitoba’s eco-tech sector continue to grow and prosper.”
The Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre is a national non-profit organization recognized for its expertise in clean technology commercialization, innovation programming and real-world results.
“A truly sustainable future requires a collaborative approach,” said David Sanguinetti, CEO, Foresight Canada. “Through this milestone project, we will launch tangible pilots that reduce emissions while strengthening Manitoba’s economy and creating high-quality jobs for Canadians. By bringing together industry leaders, innovators and Indigenous partners, Foresight will ensure that Manitoba’s Path to Net Zero is inclusive, resilient and powered by home-grown solutions.”
The project will bring together industry partners, Indigenous organizations, academia and government to co-develop and launch pilot projects across Manitoba. A key component of the initiative is a commitment to expand Indigenous participation, with a target of increasing Indigenous engagement by 25 per cent across project activities, the ministers noted.
Expected outcomes over the one-year term include:
The Manitoba government will oversee the project through regular reporting, audits and approval of workplans and pilot participants to ensure accountability and alignment with provincial priorities.
The agreement represents a significant step toward building a competitive, sustainable and innovation-driven economy while advancing Manitoba’s long-term climate goals, the minister noted.
