What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
As flagged in this week’s lookahead, after spending the last few weeks counting down to the now-expired Aug. 1 deadline that U.S. President Donald Trump had unilaterally imposed on countries to strike a two-way deal to dodge the sweeping new tariffs that he unveiled in April, Prime Minister Mark Carney will be operating on a “reduced schedule” this week “to reflect a brief period of local vacation.”
As per the notice sent out by his office over the weekend, he’ll be sticking relatively close to home — or, as his office puts it, “within the National Capital Region and surrounding area” — and “will remain in close coordination with his team and officials on several economic and security priorities for the weeks ahead.”
