Membertou rink project gets $6M from Ottawa – Cape Breton Post

MEMBERTOU — It’s appropriate that the announcement of $6 million in federal funding for the Membertou Sports and Wellness Centre Friday was made beneath the massive dreamcatcher in the community’s convention centre lobby.
The $18-million project began as a dream of Chief Terry Paul, as he watched young and old in his community skate on a frozen pond in Membertou.
“It’s open air and there’s some very cold winter days that we see the kids out there trying to shovel the ice there, and I felt that maybe it would be good if we put a roof over that pond,” Paul said.
