MNBC: B.C.’s economic Recovery Benefit applications now open

Applications are now open for the B.C. Recovery Benefit program, which will see the majority of British Columbians and Métis citizens receive a one-time support payment.The Recovery Benefit is aimed at helping all British Columbians at the end of a very difficult year. It is tax-free and could be delivered as early as the end of the year.

Amounts received will be determined by income statements and tax returns from the previous year (2019). Qualifications and dollar amounts are as follows:

• $1,000 for families with incomes under $125,000. Families with income over $175,000 will qualify for a reduced amount while single-parent families will also qualify for these amounts.
• $500 for single people earning less than $62,500. Single people earning up to $87,500 will qualify for a reduced benefit amount.

British Columbians receiving income assistance and disability assistance will be eligible for the B.C. Recovery Benefit. As well, people on income assistance, disability assistance and low-income seniors receiving the senior’s supplement will receive an additional recovery benefit at $150 per month from January 2021 to March 2021, according to the Government of BC news release.
