Niobay announced in October it planned to resume exploration about 40 kilometres south of Moosonee
A First Nation in northern Ontario says it will do whatever is needed to stop the development of a niobium mine in its homeland.
Moose Cree First Nation (MCFN) Chief Peter Wesley wrote a letter this week to stakeholders of Niobay Metals to say the nation opposes proposed exploration. He said the community will never consent to a mine in the North French River Watershed, which he describes as one of the last untouched water systems in their homeland.
“There is simply no path forward on the James Bay Niobium Project,” wrote Wesley in the open letter, posted to Moose Cree First Nation’s website.
