More than $1 million in Gaming Grants Provided to Saskatchewan Communities

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is providing more than $1 million to more than 700 organizations across the province as part of SLGA’s charitable gaming grant program.

“The organizations receiving these grants strengthen their communities in many different ways – everything from providing activities for children to community based efforts to improve local facilities,” Minister responsible for SLGA Donna Harpauer said.  “The individuals that volunteer their time through these organizations are making a difference and our government is pleased to provide additional support through these grants.”

Among the grants provided by SLGA this quarter: Prince Albert and surrounding area received $99,014; Yorkton and surrounding area: $92,355; Swift Current and surrounding area: $40,554; Meadow Lake and surrounding area: $32,283 and Lloydminster and surrounding area: $31,313.

The charitable gaming grant program provides a grant equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised through charitable gaming activities including licensed bingos, raffles, breakopen tickets, Texas Hold’em poker and Monte Carlo events.  Groups that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities and events do not have to apply for the charitable gaming grant.  Charitable gaming reports submitted by the groups are used by SLGA to calculate grants and paid out each quarter.
