What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
So far, there’s no word — official or otherwise — on when Prime Minister Mark Carney will fill the now-vacant spot in his front bench lineup created by the abrupt departure of now former Canadian Identity Minister Steven Guilbeault last week — or, for that matter, whether he intends to be in his own front-and-centre seat in the House of Commons to face his opposition adversaries later today.
As of publication time on Monday morning, Carney’s office hasn’t yet released his daily itinerary, which would presumably include any immediate plans to make his way to Rideau Hall for a swearing-in ceremony, which, as per standard parliamentary protocols, would be required even if he simply assigns one of his current ministers to serve as a temporary replacement ahead of the more significant cabinet overhaul that, even before Guilbeault’s exit, was already widely expected to be in the works.
