MPs to vote on Conservative bid to order senior PMO staff, Brookfield executives to appear before committee studying conflict of interest laws – iPolitics

With Prime Minister Mark Carney expected to touch down in Singapore later today to kick off the second leg of his nine-day Asia Pacific tour, MPs are set to vote on a Conservative-initiated push to order his chief of staff, Marc-André Blanchard, along with current Privy Council Clerk Michael Sabia and senior representatives of his erstwhile employer, Brookfield Asset Management, to appear before the ACCESS TO INFORMATION, PRIVACY AND ETHICS committee as part of an ongoing opposition-driven investigation into whether the current conflict of interest rules need to be expanded due to the “unprecedented extent of the prime minister’s corporate and shareholding interests.” (3 p.m.)

The motion — which, if adopted, would constitute a binding order of the House of Commons — was put forward by Conservative MP Michael Barrett yesterday afternoon, and would set a deadline of Nov. 21 for the individuals named to testify — separately, for “at least two hours each” — with the committee to report back to the House with its conclusions by Nov. 21.
