New app showcases favourites in Wood Buffalo – Fort McMurray Today

There’s an app for that.

Centred around a website, and free Android and iOS mobile phone apps, The Best of Wood Buffalo (BOWB) is a new digital program aimed at helping residents and tourists alike connect and engage with the best amenities and services the municipality has to offer.

Anyone who’s downloaded the BOWB app can use it to scan in-store QR codes that tag their location to record their visit. People can then vote for their favourite services in a variety of categories that will lead up to annual awards recognizing the best of Wood Buffalo.

“Every corner you turn, you see the demand for engagement in this community,” executive director of Community Futures Wood Buffalo Kenton Price said. “There’s a lot of people that want to be engaged, sometimes it falls flat, and this is a perfect avenue of which to get that started.”

The program was launched by Community Futures Wood Buffalo, partnering with the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce, the Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and Fort McMurray Tourism. Altogether, the stakeholders contributed $80,000 towards the development and content of the new app.
