New Board and Staff Announcement

NEWS RELEASE – For Immediate Release

Victoria, B.C, June 10, 2014 – The Victoria Foundation wishes to announce the appointment of Mary E. Mouat, QC, to our Board of Directors, and the addition of Carol Hall to our staff as Director of Community Initiatives and Grants.

Mary Mouat graduated from the University of Victoria, Faculty of Law in 1987 and has been a partner with Colin C. Robinson at Quadra Legal Centre in Victoria since August of 1990. Mary practices exclusively in the area of family law. She has been a qualified family mediator since 1996 and a collaborative practitioner for over 10 years. Mary’s volunteer work has included Victoria Women’s Sexual Assault Centre (now Victoria Sexual Assault Centre), Island Sexual Health Society and the Victoria Heritage Foundation.

Mary has also been active in the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, serving as a section chair and an elected representative for Victoria. Mary has served on the board of the Law Courts Education Society (now Justice Education Society), the Law Foundation of British Columbia, including chairing the Foundation in 2009 and 2010, and the BC Hear the Child Society. Mary received designation as Queen’s Counsel in 2011 and was the recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Faculty of Law.

Carol Hall brings 20 years of experience with the non-profit sector to the community grants program at the Victoria Foundation. Most recently, Carol worked on projects in Victoria and internationally to mobilize the knowledge and tools necessary for non-profits to increase their impact in an era of rapid change.  Prior to moving to Vancouver Island in 2007, she was executive director of a family foundation in New England where she led its grant making and partnerships to conserve farms and natural areas. Also in New England, Carol managed community land protection projects at the Trust for Public Land. Earlier in her career, Carol worked on community development and conservation projects in southern Africa. Before joining the Victoria Foundation, she volunteered to support its efforts to build long-term collaboration for improved food security.

Carol holds a Master of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics from the University College London and a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University. Beginning immediately, Carol will be working part-time until August 6, at which time she will transition to full-time. Carol replaces Marg Rose, who, after six years with the Victoria Foundation, is moving on to work with the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Calgary, Alberta. We will miss Marg, and wish her all the best in her new endeavours.
