Press Release
Sudbury – May 9: The United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada) is pleased to announce the 8th Edition of The New Diplomacy of Natural Resources. This innovative forum will take place on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Laurentian University’s new Executive Learning Centre in Sudbury. The New Diplomacy aims to convene some of the best and brightest graduate scholars and young professionals with leaders from the private sector, NGOs, aboriginal peoples, and government.
When it comes to the natural resource sector, Canada needs a new conversation. A conversation that is collaborative in nature, inclusive of all Canadian stakeholders and founded on the understanding that the future of natural resource development depends on sustainable practices. UNA-Canada and our partners offer The New Diplomacy of Natural Resources as an important platform for this new conversation. Combining UNA-Canada’s successful empathy-based learning approach with a business school case competition, this forum will facilitate finding the right balance between economic growth, environmental protection, and the provision of a secure and positive quality of life for Canadians and global citizens.
This year, we are excited to present The New Diplomacy in conjunction with Laurentian University’s Sudbury Protocol Conference, which takes place from May 9th to 11th. UNA-Canada will work with Laurentian University to provide even greater enrichment and opportunity for its young delegates to learn from some of the leading minds in Canada. In addition, the outcomes of this year’s edition of The New Diplomacy will be shared with the United Nations Environment Assembly’s 2nd Conference in Nairobi later in May.
UNA-Canada is an historic registered charity with a mandate to educate and engage Canadians in support for, and understanding of the United Nations and issues which have a global impact. Working with a broad network of partners, UNA-Canada provides a place for Canadians to offer made-in-Canada solutions to challenges confronting the global commons and to develop skills in living together in peace and prosperity.
