MEMBERTOU, N.S. _ Terry Paul has been re-elected for a 16th consecutive term as chief of Nova Scotia’s Membertou First Nation.
Paul garnered 341 votes to defeat former councillor Darrell Bernard, who picked up 314 votes in the close race.
Paul says he was impressed with the level of youth engagement during his 80 hours of door-to-door campaign visits.
He says it’s important that Membertou’s youth be engaged in decision-making processes and offer advice on how to better the community.
The counting process for Thursday’s election started Friday but didn’t finish until about 5 a.m. Saturday.
