Press Release
August 29, 2025
Beginning September 1, 2025, Nunavut’s minimum wage rate is increasing to $19.75 per hour. With this update, Nunavut continues to have the highest minimum wage rate in Canada.
Minimum wage rates will now be reviewed and adjusted every year, with changes taking effect on September 1.
This change is part of a new annual adjustment system introduced by the Government of Nunavut, which ensures the minimum wage better reflects the cost of living and wage trends across the territory. The formula used to calculate the rate each year is based on the Consumer Price Index for Iqaluit and Nunavut’s average hourly wage from the previous year.
In years where using the formula would suggest lowering the minimum wage, the wage will remain the same for that year. The minimum wage will only change when the formula supports an increase.
If you have questions about the minimum wage or other labour standards in effect in Nunavut, contact the Labour Standards Compliance Office at 1-867-975-6322 or toll-free at 1-877-806-8402.
