Body must prove to regulators project will not have negative impact on people, environment
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) continues to seek community buy-in for its proposed $26 billion underground waste repository, to be built between Ignace and Wabigoon Lake in northwestern Ontario.
Earlier in September, Joe Heil, the NWMO’s vice-president of Indigenous and municipal relations and transportation, made a presentation to Dryden city council, detailing the expected timeline for the first of two repositories.
Vince Ponka, Indigenous and regional communications manager, said the NWMO will shortly issue an initial project description — outlining exactly what the project will be — and this will mark the launch of an extensive regulatory approvals process.
