Minister first from NWT to become president of PNWER
Industry Minister David Ramsay made history last week by becoming the first from the Northwest Territories to be made president of the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER).
His first mission: Drawing attention to the “tremendous resource potential” in the North, even if that means welcoming other jurisdictions’ rejected pipeline projects.
“It is just a great opportunity for us to tell the story about what’s happening in the Northwest Territories and Canada’s Arctic,” Ramsay told reporters during a teleconference last Thursday.
“What’s happening in the Arctic matters, and we have to continue to tell people that developing the Arctic is very important to other jurisdictions from an economic standpoint. Of course, trade and commerce flows through to other jurisdictions in PNWER when it happens in the Arctic.”
