
ODANAK ABENAKI FIRST NATION, JUNE 8, 2026 – Odanak Abenaki First Nation in Quebec has achieved Financial Management System (FMS) Certification, the highest financial system certification awarded by the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB). This certification confirms that the First Nation’s financial and administrative governance practices meet the FMB’s requirements for FMS Certification, which are based on internationally recognized financial management standards.
“I am very proud of the results of the audit conducted for obtaining our FMS Certification,” said Chief of the Odanak Abenaki Council, Richard O’Bomsawin. “These results demonstrate the exemplary nature of our organization and the rigor of our processes. I want to thank all the staff involved in achieving this goal. Receiving this certification is an additional sign of trust for our members in relation to their Council.”
As part of its economic development journey, the Nation has invested in real estate and wind power projects and is currently developing its tourism offerings. In collaboration with the FMB, Odanak Abenaki First Nation adopted its Financial Administration Law (FAL) in 2021, obtained Financial Performance Certification in 2022, and updated its FAL in 2025.
