Ottawa police officer pleads guilty after online comments about death of indigenous woman

Ottawa – Following the posting of online comments by an Ottawa Police member about the death of Annie Pootoogook, the Professional Standards Section (PSS) launched an investigation.

On October 20th, Sgt. Chris Hrnchiar was charged with two counts of Discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act. He appeared today before Hearing Officer D/C Terence Kelly (retired) at a First Appearance. The officer pled guilty.

The next hearing date will be December 7th when the Hearing Officer will present his Decision on penalty.
