Oujé-Bougoumou’s chief says most people go out of town to shop for food
Oujé-Bougoumou Cree Nation has officially begun construction on its first commercial centre and grocery store.
Expected to open by the winter of 2026, the two-storey facility will house a grocery store and it will have space for local entrepreneurs, retailers, offices and meeting rooms.
Dozens of people attended a ceremony to mark the beginning of the beginning of the building project at the site of a former depanneur (convenience store) on Friday near the community’s entrance.
