Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation achieves Financial Management System Certification

PHEASANT RUMP NAKOTA FIRST NATION – Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation, located in Treaty 4 territory on the Pheasant Rump Nakota 68 reserve near Kisbey, Saskatchewan, has achieved Financial Management System (FMS) Certification from the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB). This means that Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation’s finance and administrative governance practices now meet the standards of the FMB’s highest level of financial certification, based on internationally recognized standards of financial management.

“The Pheasant Rump Nakota Nation is extremely proud of being recognized and acknowledged for the quality and soundness of our administrative processes and procedures through the granting of this Financial Management Systems Certification by the First Nations Financial Management Board,” says Chief Ira McArthur. “This Certification is a testament to the commitment by our Nation as a whole towards the good governance of our financial and administrative resources and will stand as a benchmark of the progress and development of our Nation.”

Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation pursued FMS Certification to demonstrate to its members, partners, and fellow Nations that it is deeply committed to open, transparent, and high-quality finance, governance, and human resource practices. Being only the fourth Nation in Saskatchewan to achieve this distinction, Pheasant Rump undertook the certification through a years-long staff-driven process, reflecting a shared dedication to integrity and putting the best interests of the Nation and its citizens at the centre of every decision.

As part of its journey in achieving FMS Certification, Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation developed a Financial Administration Law in 2018 and received the FMB’s Financial Performance Certificate in 2019. In 2022, the Nation was issued a New Fiscal Relationship 10-Year Grant and became a debenture participant with the First Nations Finance Authority.

Building on recent achievements, the Nation is planning to expand its team to support continued growth and long-term development. This growth will strengthen initiatives focused on culture and education, including the establishment of an Indigenous Cultural Centre. The Centre will serve as a welcoming and accessible space for community members and the public to learn about Nakota history and engage with traditional knowledge, language, and culture. It will also support health and healing, local food systems, and land-based values, creating a vibrant hub for connection, learning, and renewal.

The FMB congratulates Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation on the significant achievement of FMS Certification.
