February 5th, 2024 – St. Laurent, Quebec – President Pita Aatami was re-elected as the Makivvik President with 1,862 votes (71.29%). The election, held on February 1st, was the first Makivvik Universal election to introduce online voting as an option to Nunavik beneficiaries. This year’s election saw a voter turnout of 26.49%, or 2,612 votes cast. Electronic voting represented 23.58% of those votes, and in-person votes cast at polling stations made up 76.41% of the total votes.
Suzy Kauki and Harry Tulugak joined Pita Aatami in the race for Makivvik President.

In response to the overwhelming support shown for him, President Aatami expressed his gratitude. He said, “I am deeply honoured and moved by the trust my fellow Inuit have once again placed in me. I would like to congratulate and thank Harry and Suzy for wanting to help in the development of Nunavik. This reappointment is a collective affirmation of our shared vision for a united and self-determined Nunavik.”
President Aatami highlighted the importance of working together not only with his fellow executives and BOD members but also with regional organizations. “As we navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead, I am dedicated to fostering collaboration and unity, not only within our executive team but also with our valued regional partners. Our recent signing of the political accord with Quebec marks a significant step in our journey towards self-determination. I appreciate the opportunity to continue this crucial work and am committed to ensuring that the voices of our people are heard in the decision-making process.”
