What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
A day after announcing another new addition to the Liberal caucus — namely, now former Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu, the fifth opposition member and the fourth Conservative to cross the floor to join the governing party since the election, a move that, as iPolitics notes, “all but ensures the party will emerge from the April 13 byelections with a two-seat majority” — Prime Minister Mark Carney heads to Montérégie, Que., to unveil what his office is billing as an “important initiative to diversify Canada’s trade and build a stronger, more resilient economy.” (11 a.m.)
Meanwhile, nearly 4,000 duly registered Liberals are set to descend on Montreal for the party’s biennial convention, which, as previewed by iPolitics earlier this week, officially gets rolling later this afternoon.
