What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
Two days after securing his belated return to the House of Commons as the newly elected MP for Battle River — Crowfoot, Alta., Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is heading back out onto the late summer hustings in Surrey, B.C., where, according to the party, he’ll unveil his party’s latest “action plan to end the crime and chaos on our streets” — an alliterative phrase that has appeared regularly in the party’s messaging for the last two years. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mark Carney is off to Montreal for separate meetings with outgoing mayor Valérie Plante (1:30 p.m.) and Quebec Premier François Legault (6:30 p.m.), as well as a “roundtable discussion with business leaders” that, as per his itinerary, will be “focused on artificial intelligence and innovation.” (3 p.m.)
