What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
Officially, the House of Commons isn’t scheduled to shut down for the season until tomorrow, but as Canadian Press reports, MPs may be able to wrap up the fall sitting as early as later this afternoon — provided, that is, that there’s unanimous support to do so.
While several key government initiatives are still working their way through the parliamentary process, one load-bearing bill did manage to clear a critical hurdle last night: namely, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne’s 634-page pitch to roll out measures announced in his inaugural budget speech last month, which, after clocking in ten days under second-reading scrutiny, got the green light to proceed to committee last night, when it was adopted on division without a recorded vote.
