‘While Canada and Ontario are making deals and promises they can’t possibly fulfil with fraudulent organizations, First Nations are doing the work to ensure their rights, jurisdiction and sovereignty remain intact,’ Ontario regional chief says
The Chiefs of Ontario are calling on the province to release all the evidence and analysis used to justify the 2017 identification of the six “so-called historic Métis communities” in the province.
According to the organization, the move would allow Ontario residents to get a “full picture” of how this decision was made by the former Liberal government led by then-premier Kathleen Wynne.
The Chiefs of Ontario point to two recent academic reports they say only add to the “growing mountain of evidence proving no historical presences of Métis communities within First Nations territories across Ontario.”
