Terrace, November 5, 2013 – Ridley Terminals Inc. donated a number of pieces of industrial heavy equipment from its Prince Rupert operations to Northwest Community College (NWCC) for practical use in trades training.
“As Ridley Terminals continues to be committed to building human capacity through educational initiatives, and in addition to our already existing partnership with Northwest Community College through the Coastal Pathways Partnership, the donation of decommissioned heavy equipment from our site to the heavy duty mechanic program at NWCC was a natural choice for us. We are very happy to contribute to the learning of students in our region,” said Michelle Bryant, Corporate Affairs Manager at Ridley Terminals.
The machinery, including two dozers, an excavator, a grader, a forklift, an ambulance and a flat deck truck, will be used for demonstrations, troubleshooting and repair practices in NWCC’s Heavy Duty Equipment Technician program.
“Ridley Terminals is a valued industry partner of NWCC. Their generous donation of this equipment further enhances the quality education and training students receive at NWCC. It gives trades students the opportunity to practice hands-on, what they are learning, on equipment that reflects the real world work environment,” said NWCC President and CEO, Denise Henning.
Northwest Community College (NWCC) is an accredited post-secondary institution offering comprehensive education and training to the 34 urban, rural and remote communities of northwestern BC. NWCC is a recognized leader in Aboriginal education where Aboriginals make up roughly 40 per cent of the student body. NWCC celebrates the diversity of its northern and Aboriginal populations and reflects this in its programs, services and workforce.
