Round 2 of Manitoba Minnesota Transmission Project Underway

The Manitoba–Minnesota Transmission Project includes a proposed 500 kilovolt AC transmission line in southeastern Manitoba and associated station upgrades. The project is required to:

• export power to the United States based on current sales agreements;
• improve reliability and import capacity in emergency and drought situations;
• increase access to markets in the United States.

Subject to regulatory approvals, the projected in-service date is mid-2020. The estimated cost of the project is $350 million.

We will:

• seek public input in selecting an optimal route;
• undertake an environmental assessment for the project.

Current Status – Round 2 Public Engagement Underway

Based on feedback gathered throughout Round 1, we have refined our routing options and have determined a preferred border crossing for the Project located near the community of Piney, Manitoba.

We have completed 10 public open houses in Round 2 that provided opportunities for the public to share comments, feedback, and local knowledge as we progress to a preferred route.
