Sask. First Nation salary postings trickle in – News Talk 650

July 31, 2014

Saskatchewan First Nation salaries continue to trickle onto the federal government’s website following Tuesday’s deadline.

Six of the province’s 70 First Nations have had their financial audits and salaries posted to the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development website, with more expected in the coming week.

Of the available public statements, chief salaries range between $14,488 (Pheasant Rump Nakota chief, Terry McArthur) and $78,727 (White Bear chief, Brian Standingready) with most sitting in the $40,000 to $60,000 range.

The mandatory move follows the federal government’s passage of the First Nations Financial Transparency Act.

The act was met with mixed reviews by First Nations communities across the country.

Mistawasis First Nation’s salaries and statement went online on Wednesday but the band posts the information to their website.
