Saskatchewan First Nations group cutting after funding shortfall – Globalnews.ca

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – Delegates at the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations special legislative assembly have voted to cut the pay of vice-chiefs.

Vice-chiefs making more than $90,000 a year will see their pay cut to $75,000.

Voters at the assembly in Prince Albert also decided to reduce the number of legislative assemblies from three to two.

Federation Chief Perry Bellegarde’s office will be allocated $215,000, but will have no executive assistant.

All executives will now have to share two assistants.

The group is trying to make up for a $2 million cut in funding from the federal government.

In his opening address, Bellegarde said the group would work through this, and come back stronger at the end of the day.
